This is a hellebore, also called a Lenten Lily. They start blooming in the early spring, and there are some varieties that bloom in the early fall. I like them because the pestiferous deer and elk don't eat them, since they are poisonous, and the serrated leaf edges keep them from nibbling just to check. There are so many different types and colors--I saw this one at a nursery a couple of weeks ago.
For those who have asked: Rick and I are playing Hospital Bungee--in and out, in and out. The doctors are ironing out most of the kinks in his recovery, so hopefully one of these days we will get home and STAY home. I miss Pea-ing, but can't do much of it at the hospital (oh there's a good laugh in there!!). I am home tonight for the first time in a while, but back to my "second home" tomorrow. Thank you for all the emails and kind thoughts and wishes, and the prayers. They have all helped!

its a lovely capture. i am sorry you are playing hospital rebound. i hope the drs get it all sorted out and you two can get back to enjoying life outside the hospital.
ReplyDeletePat, I'm so glad you checked in today! And now I know it's ironed kinks that I'm praying for! Pretty little hellebore, and it sounds like one spunky, clever, survivor little plant.
ReplyDeleteSorry you've been spending more time at the hospital! Hope R continues to mend! Love your shot. What a beautiful little plant!
ReplyDeletePretty flower, reminds me of an orchid! I hope he mends quickly.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flower - wish some flowers were coming out here... too much snow!! Sorry R is back in the hospital - sending you good vibes that he is back home soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you are both having to spend so much time at the hospital, my prayers are with you, him, and the drs. You captured the beauty of that flower
ReplyDeletePat, I'd been wondering if R was having difficulties, you have been missed. I sure hope he's home for GOOD soon! What a beautiful capture, I love the color and detail you got. And I'm glad you have at least one thing in your garden that the wildlife leaves alone. I thought of you last week while at the arboretum. The Hellebores are just starting to open. I forgot to bring a chopstick to prop them up to shoot though. Next time...
ReplyDeleteGet well wished to Rick!
I'm so sorry to hear you have been spending so much time in the hospital. Hopefully you guys will be home for good very soon! The photo is beautiful, but of course all of yours are!
ReplyDeleteI hope your husband is well enough to stay home for good very, very soon!
