And this is literally a drive-by shooting (although I WISH it had been with a gun!). These are part of the local herd of elk who prefer the yards in our neighborhood. Yes, they are majestic; yes, it is exciting to see them--IF they are in someone else's yard! I had to grab this quickly as I slowed the car down and hoped I didn't slide off the road. Sorry about the quality...moving car and early morning overcast light don't make for a good exposure combo.

Dumpster Divers and Pests
When I was out running errands this morning, I heard a rustling in the trash can next to the sidewalk. Pretty soon, out popped an opportunistic dumpster diver. Hey--no tourists equal no treats, so he figured out real quickly that he could get in and out of the trash can pretty easily. Plus, it HAS to be warmer and dryer in there!!

What a cute squirrel. We don't have much wildlife running around here in the burbs. The snow on the can has a lot of detail!
ReplyDeleteI know those elk drive you buts, but you are right, they are majestic. Instead of the (new-ish) law about driving while holding a cell phone, maybe there ought to be one for "drive-by" shooting as well?!?
ReplyDeleteLove that you caught that little squirrel too!
That squirrel cracked me up, there is one that comes by every afternoon JUST to torture my dog.
ReplyDeleteAre elf related to monkeys? They have the weirdest butts. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm not particularly fond of deer, either, given what they do to lots of people and their vehicles. Your photos are beautiful anyway. Your neighborhood needs an "Elk whisperer!"
ReplyDeleteThat squirrel is too funny. Sorry about the elk--I can totally understand about wanting them in someone else's yard.
ReplyDeleteLove your wildlife shots. We have wild turkeys in our not so wild neighborhood. A few started feeding them and now they have been here for several years. ~Jackie
ReplyDeleteWow, grat shots. We have squirrels and rabbits.. I understand how annoying it can be when they are in your yard
ReplyDeletelove the wildlife photos
ReplyDeleteGreat squirrel shots!
ReplyDeleteWhat a view on the last one. Love the squirrel shots. Great wintery pictures--we don't have much of a "winter" here.

I know the elk drive you crazy, but I love when you post photos of them. I'm definitely in the 'squirrels are pests' camp, though.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words, Pat. :-)
I love all of them, but I really adore the squirrel. Sooo cute! We have one climbing a tree to our apartment window everyday to get a slice of bread from me. They are amazingly tame creatures!
ReplyDeleteI love the first 2 of the squirrel.
ReplyDeleteWhat great wildlife shots! And that squirrel looks like a relative of the ones who live in my backyard!
ReplyDeleteMakes you smile and grind your teeth at the same time. Great shots.
ReplyDeleteThat squirrel is adorable and hysterical! I love it. Great shot of the elk too. Especially since it was a "drive by shooting".
ReplyDeleteDrive by shooting...too funny! Cute squirrel pics.
ReplyDeleteThat is one frosty looking squirrel!

ReplyDeleteI have this totally odd fascination with squirrels. They are such a comical little animal, and I feel like you have really captured their naughty side here! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to get to see Elks so close!! As for squirrels... got some of those here... too many too!!
ReplyDeleteHow lucky you are to have these Elks as neighbors. We don't get to see nature like that here in Richmond. The squirrel is really cute
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful wildlife! I miss that! But I don't miss the elk messing up my flower beds though. They are beautiful but such a pain! LOL.
ReplyDeleteLove those first two shots! Too funny about him dumpster diving. The elk are so beautiful.... I can't imagine having them so close to me.
